  • Community Orchard news

There’s an open morning at the Old Rec, Robbs Chase, on Sunday March 22 from 10am to noon.

Come along and meet the committee behind a major project to transform the two-acre site into a community orchard, memorial garden and fully accessible asset for the whole village to enjoy.

It’s a big job and raising funds is a major element of the project and we have already raised enough to make a good start, so join us on Sunday morning to have a look and learn more about what we’re doing.

  • Update on the Old Sluice Project

The site has now been cleared thanks to the combined efforts of Lee Bishop and Paul Brenchley, coordinated by County Councillor Chris Dawson.

Members of OPC met on-site with Cllr Dawson on Sunday, February 15, to discuss the next steps for the project. It was agreed that the old lock wall will be preserved and showcased as a key feature of the area, along with the original sluice mechanisms.

In time, an information board will be installed, including detailed illustrations and a brief history of the former sluice.  Wildflowers, grassed areas and picnic benches will be added to create a welcoming community green space to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike.

The project will be delivered in phases by OPC, working closely with County Councillor Chris Dawson throughout with help from MCC, and volunteers Bill Smith and Paul Brenchley.

  • Roadworks

There have been a lot of roadworks, closures and partial closures in both villages in recent weeks.
The parish council is not always advised in advance of all road works, but residents can check on a real-time website which has all the details of scheduled works. Visit the site Causeway map
It is also always worth looking at the Welney Flood Wash page on Facebook as it is updated by volunteers during the winter months and is very accurate. You can find it on Facebook
